Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship Provides a $32,000 stipend for the first year of graduate training to receive a Master in Fine Arts Teaching which requires a three-year commitment to teach under-served populations in Pennsylvania. Three deadlines (Nov 4, Jan 11, and March 21)
The Institute for the Recruitment of Teachers is organization that seeks to diversify the pool of educators in high schools and colleges and provides mentoring and reduction of fees for graduate school applications and summer workshops. If you are planning on pursuing a PhD in math, social sciences, and/or humanities and have interest in bridging the gap in education disparities, they offer an on-site four-week Summer Program, a summer graduate school fair, and a Fall Associates Program with virtual weekly mentoring. Deadline for applications for rising seniors or juniors is April 1.
Government & Policy
Presidential Management Fellowship two year program fully paid with projects and some can be in the area of public health or environmental management
NYC Urban Health Fellows is a nine month fellowship working with government agencies on policy, open to students who received their BA between Spring 2020 and Spring 2022. $31K stipend and job placement, seminars, and training. For more information see here. January deadline.
Alfred Landecker Humanity in Action and Democracy Fellowship this one year fellowship is new and part of Humanity in Action, focused on COVID-19’s impact on democracy, and social innovation, and only open to young professionals and highly competitive. Best after one has secured employment and/or some graduate training. Provides ~$20K in stipend and $5K in project funds.
Emerson National Hunger Fellowship Located in Washington DC. Leadership development program that bridges community-based programs with national public policy in an effort to eliminate health disparity and poverty as a result of racism. Open to students with a BA and provides $48K stipend.
Environment, Conservation, Energy, & Development
Ted Smith Alaska Conservation Foundation Internships Accepts undergraduates and recent graduates who are interested in working for one of 17 different organizations focused on conservation in Alaska. Offers a $6K stipend for 12 week summer internship and $1K for travel. January Deadline.
CivicSpark is a California based Governor’s Initiative AmeriCorps program dedicated to building capacity for local governments to address climate change and water management needs. This year had two types of fellowships (Climate Action and Water). Deadline is October 1st each year.
Climate Corps (~$30K) A full time, 10-month fellowship program for emerging professionals who have a baseline of education and experience to build on in this fellowship.
Environmental Defense Fund offers internships and fellowships for students and recent graduates in a variety of fields.
Ray Diversity Conservation and Clean Energy and Fellowships aim to increase and facilitate conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy-related career pathways for emerging leaders of color. The RAY Fellowship Program is a two-year paid fellowship designed to equip recent college graduates with the tools, experiences, support, and community they need to become leaders in the conservation and clean energy sectors—one that, in our visions of the future, fully represents, includes, and is led by the diverse communities, perspectives, and experiences of the United States.
New York Department of Environmental Protection offers paid and unpaid undergraduate and graduate internships year-round in a variety of fields during the fall, spring, and summer sessions.

Public Health & STEM
National Institutes of Health offers a few STEM Biomedical Fellowships. The Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) is a biomedical program that enables eligible recent college graduates who are planning to apply to graduate or professional school to spend one or two years working with investigators at the NIH. The NIH Academy is a year-long biomedical research program (renewable for a second year) at the NIH for eligible recent college graduates who (1) are planning to apply to graduate or professional school and (2) wish to pursue an interest in domestic health disparities. The Technical IRTA Program is for college graduates who come to the NIH with the express interest of developing their skills as research support personnel. Students with limited access to research experiences during the academic year due to financial hardship or adversely affected by natural disasters (Hurricanes etc) are encouraged to apply.
City Doctor Each year, NYC Health + Hospitals will provide academic and needs-based full and partial tuition scholarships to attend St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada. As part of their scholarship and continued education, each student commits to giving back to the city by applying for a position as a primary care attending physician at one of NYC Health + Hospital’s New York hospitals and diagnostic centers. If selected, the recipient will commit to employment with NYC Health + Hospitals for the amount of years the scholarships was provided.
CDC Public Health Associates Fellowship (PHAP) A two year PAID training program for those with a BA that places individuals in public health department and situates them for a career in public health. Each PHAP associate is assigned to a state, tribal, local, or territorial public health agency and works alongside public health professionals. After completing the program, PHAP graduates will be qualified for future jobs with government public health agencies and will be uniquely prepared to pursue an advanced degree in public health. Deadline is a progressive set with the first application deadline February 3.
The Association of Public Health Laboratories are labs that detect and monitor public health threats and serve as hosts for a number of fellowships in coordination with the CDC. Fellowships are open to those with bachelors and masters and span infectious disease, bioinformatics, environmental health, newborn screening, and more. One temporary fellowship (no longer active) focused on COVID-19 accepted recent college graduates and provided $40K for those with a bachelors and up to $67K for those with PhD.
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Fellowships (SAMHSA) offers two different fellowships that address health disparities and are eligible to students seeking a graduate degree in behavioral health.
Health Corps
NYState Public Health Corps This is a new program launched in fall 2021 and has an 8 week turn around time on applications for a one year appointment with the possibility of extension at three levels depending on education completion (high school diploma or BA, MA, or PHD). Salary ranges from $41K with BA – $64K with PhD.
AmeriCorps Health Corps at the Institute for Family Health in Manhattan. Note that this program is national and thus there are other centers that will have positions through the AmeriCorps website. This is a full time commitment for 9-11 months with a $12,570 stipend, education credits, and student loan deferment. Mid April deadline.
Global Health Corps one year fellowship with opportunities to continue. GHC currently places fellows in Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia. Biodesign & Health
Stanford Biodesign Fellowship 10 month health technology training program open to established professionals at the James H. Clark Center on the Stanford University campus. Clinical immersion is completed at Stanford Health Care, as well as a variety of other settings across the continuum of care.
Singapore Agency for Science Technology Research Biodesign Fellowship a six month fellowship for professionals seeking to infuse biodesign into the health sector and which grew out of a Stanford alliance.
Study Abroad
Boren Fellowships combines interests in language and travel with research in culture and STEM. Post grad and also undergraduate summer research experiences (REU).
Fulbright Fellowship is for international work, requires coordination of host country and language proficiency.
Mount Sinai Global Health Disparities Research Training Program open to undergraduate and graduate students or those who have graduated in the last 24 months and is run by Puerto Rican physician Luz Claudio, a champion for underrepresented minorities in this field (diversity is broadly defined here). Starts in June and involves 11 weeks in a host country.

ProFellow is a small, women-owned social enterprise based in the United States that provides articles, database, workshops for academic fellowships to fund graduate school and for early career professionals. ProFellow’s Founder and Director Dr. Vicki Johnson is a four-time fellow, top PhD scholar, and award-winning social entrepreneur. Vicki founded ProFellow with her husband Ryan Johnson in 2011 while she was a Fulbright fellow and PhD student living in New Zealand. Read more.

Public Health National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program (NHSC SP) Two year scholarship for graduate training as a Dentist, Physician’s Assistant, Physician, etc. with a pay back requirement in the form of taking a job in an underserved area.
Samvid Scholars Fellowships is a new scholarship for future leaders and changemakers. Samvid Scholars was established in 2021 by Samvid Ventures to invest in the graduate education of future leaders who are committed to effecting positive change in society. You can apply before you are accepted to graduate school and many schools will be more inclined to accept a student who comes with their own funding. Eligibility includes those with undergrad GPA of 3.5 and interest in graduate training in law, medicine, public health, Business, policy, education, STEM MA/MS, or social science MS. Deadline March 31st.
Green Energy Dream Corps Scholarships provides funding up to $3500 for trainings, certifications, professional development in particular for those that identify as BIPOC.
Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest Select an ethical issue that you have encountered and analyze what it has taught you about ethics and yourself. First prize is $5000 and other prizes available to fund any college expenses, including tuition, miscellaneous fees, textbooks or room and board. New York State Citizen Public Health Training Program Cornell University’s Public Health Program has developed a four-part online training program to help build community-led initiatives and support surrounding prevention, detection, and response in the event of public health emergencies. With two hours of content per week, each module will build up your core knowledge, skills, and abilities, along with specific “calls to action” to help you translate learning into action within your community and network. Each module will also have one or more live (and recorded) conversations with experts to share up-to-date information, and to answer key questions.
