Wednesday, March 14thStories Behind the CV: A Career Exploration Town Hall

Wednesday, March 14, 2018, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

The New York Academy of Sciences, 7 World Trade Center, 250 Greenwich St Fl 40, New York

When exploring possible careers, we often hear descriptions of career paths that sound so straightforward.

“I went to graduate school, did a postdoc, and found a position in industry related to my research.”

“I applied for a fellowship after graduate school and networked with some connections I had for my first job.  Make sure you network, it’s so important.”

“I had been writing a blog during graduate school, and based on that portfolio landed a great gig in science communications.”

But what is hiding behind all those successes? What are the real stories behind a neatly written CV? These are the stories our speakers will share during this event. Hear from professionals who have successfully hurdled the pitfalls of their career path, and the lessons they learned along the way as they compare their “Career Talk” to their “Stories behind the CV”.

Additionally, we want you, the audience, to participate in this conversation and share how your own stories are similar or different to our panelists during this unique “Town Hall” event.

During our reception, celebrate Pi Day and eat pie with some of your favorite scientists from Association of Women in Science – Metro NY and 500 Women Scientists NYC!

Thursday, March 15th: Improving Women’s Health: HIV, Contraception, Cervical Cancer and Schistosomiasis

Thursday, March 15, 2018 Free WEBINAR

The New York Academy of Sciences, 7 World Trade Center, 250 Greenwich St Fl 40, New York

Coinciding with the 62nd session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, this one-day symposium will advance a holistic view of sexual and reproductive health and rights to improve women’s health and well-being in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The symposium will focus on three key areas of intersection between HIV and broader sexual and reproductive health and rights; cervical cancer, hormonal contraception, and female genital schistosomiasis.  In all three areas, recent scientific advances raise the possibility of enhancing women’s health and wellbeing through closer collaboration and engagement between women, their health care providers and health programmers, and policy makers. Furthermore, lessons learned from AIDS activism and advocacy, in terms of demand creation and the right to health, can strengthen the broader community response.
