Watson’s Ghost is a triptych of genetic portraits complicate the legacy of scientist James Watson, co-discoverer of the structure of DNA and one of the first people to publicly publish their genome. The installation consists of two 3d printed portraits which bracket a holographic video animation of a face which morphs through 80 different possible interpretations of Watson’s face, generated from his DNA data. This exhibit will accompany a large scale video work How Do You See Me? which premiered at The Photographers Gallery in London last fall. The work cycles through a series of thousands of adversarial self portraits which probe the structure of facial recognition systems.
