Reimagining Public Health for NYC, a virtual series with community leaders, public health professionals, organizers, and cultural advocates.
Wednesday, October 27th at 6 p.m. ET for “Indigenous Knowledge and Values for Health Equity and Justice,” a conversation centering indigenous communities.
In honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day (October 11th), and Native American Heritage Month (November), the NYC Health Department’s Deputy Commissioner and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Michelle Morse, along with Maria Angela Soto, Director of Community Health Promotion, will be moderating an interactive panel and live audience Q&A with:
- Ben Geboe – (Yankton Sioux Tribe-South Dakota) American Indian Community House, in NYC
- Sheldon Raymore – (Cheyenne River Sioux Nation) Multidisciplinary Artist & member of American Indian Community House, in NYC
- Sutton King, MPH – (Menominee-Oneida) Co-Founder/President, Urban Indigenous Collective
- Yoloxochilt Marcelino Cano – (Na Savi) Co-founder, El Colibri: Colectivo de Interpretes de Lenguas Indigenas/
- Zenaida Cantu – (Me’phaa) Co-Founder, Council of Indigenous Peoples Living in NY
This event will also feature:
- A welcome by NYC Health + Hospitals/ Elmhurst’s Chief Executive Officer Helen Arteaga Landaverde, MPH
- A land acknowledgment and traditional music to honor the natives by Cliff Matias, founder and director of the Redhawk Native American Arts Council.
- A multi-lingual panel discussion
